Youth and Family Manager
The Association des francophones du Nunavut (AFN) is the political and community development organization that represents the Francophone community in Nunavut. It was founded in 1981 with the vision of a strong, proud, open and dynamic Francophone community in Nunavut. It is one of 12 territorial/provincial advocacy organizations across the country whose primary mission is to ensure the political representation of francophones in official language minority communities, while offering services and promoting the French fact through the preservation of culture and heritage.
Nunavut's francophone youth and families play an essential role in the development and future of this northern francophonie. The territory faces unique challenges - geographic isolation, cultural diversity, high cost of living, scarcity of French-language services - that require concerted, structured and sustainable action to strengthen the sense of belonging, community leadership and linguistic vitality.
In this context, AFN wishes to solidify its youth and family life actions by recruiting a youth and family manager, responsible for creating and implementing dynamic annual programs for these two groups, coordinating and strengthening the CJFN (Comité Jeunesse franco-nunavummiut) and RPFN (Regroupement des parents francophones du Nunavut) community committees, as well as developing partnerships and mobilizing members.
This key position aims to promote the French fact in Nunavut by offering activities and spaces for dialogue that foster personal development, civic participation and intergenerational transmission within the Franco-Nunavummiut community.
Description:
Based in Iqaluit, Nunavut, the Youth and Family Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, coordination and evaluation of initiatives, projects, services and committees related to Francophone youth (12-25) and families in Nunavut. The incumbent plays a central role in community mobilization, partnership development, fundraising, activity supervision and outreach of the francophonie in a northern minority setting.
He/She reports to the general management and is part of a team of 15 current employees assigned to the management of various AFN services.
Under the authority and supervision of the General Manager, the Manager will :
Program development and committee coordination:
- Develop, plan and implement two structured and complementary annual programs
one for French-speaking youth (ages 12-18 and 19-25),
and the other for francophone families in Nunavut, taking into account local
linguistic and geographic realities of the territory.
- Offer a diversified, inclusive and intergenerational range of activities that promote
personal development, pride in identity, cultural transmission and a sense of belonging to the of belonging to the French-speaking community in a minority setting.
- Ensure the logistical implementation and budgetary follow-up of youth and family activities.
- Work according to a collaborative and participatory approach, in particular by involving

Working conditions and benefits
- Full-time position with one-year contract, renewable subject to availability of funds;
- Annual remuneration with variable and flexible working hours;
- Annual base salary between $70,000 and $75,000, depending on experience;
- Northern living allowance (Nunavut) of $15,000;
- 06-month probation period;
- Group health and dental insurance from 3 months;
- Group RRSP starting 3 months;
- 1,000 travel bonus after 9 months of employment;
- Housing allowance of $250 per month;
- Telephone bonus of $100 per month.
Additional information: The position is based in Iqaluit. We will cover part of the moving expenses for one person, i.e., one plane ticket Montreal-Iqaluit or Ottawa-Iqaluit and four (4) pieces of luggage weighing 70 lbs. This position does not include subsidized housing.
