This opportunity is open to Iqaluit residents only.
Reporting to the Director of Emergency Management, the Territorial Business Continuity Manager is responsible for the strategic direction, management and administration of business continuity programs and internal emergency preparedness. In doing so, the Manager actively contributes to the Government of Nunavut's (GN) and the Department's commitment to ensuring that priority, mission-critical services and processes continue to operate or are restored to service as quickly as possible in the event of a significant business interruption.
Key responsibilities of the successful candidate will include:
- Ensure that the department complies with section 5 of the Emergency Measures Act;
- Establish and ensure the implementation of the general framework, structure, strategies and programs;
- Develop and implement a performance measurement framework to assess the GN's emergency preparedness based on known risks to business continuity; and
- Identify and promote best practices in business continuity within the GN and the public sector.
The knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position are typically acquired through an undergraduate degree program in emergency management, business continuity/management or a related field, and a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience including three years in a supervisory or management position. Assets include: experience in business continuity, public safety, health and safety, adult education planning, development and organization, minimum level 100 incident command system and/or basic emergency management course, and related experience or training in emergency management. This is a highly sensitive position. A satisfactory criminal record check and clearance to work with vulnerable people is required.
The official languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Candidates may submit their resumes in any of Nunavut's official languages. Proficiency in Inuktitut/Inuinnaqtun would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, relationship to the land, Qaujimajatuqangit and Inuktut, as well as experience of working in a northern cross-cultural environment, are also considered assets.
