Description : Located in Iqaluit, Nunavut's capital, the Radio Manager is responsible for overseeing the management and operation of CFRT 107.3 FM, Nunavut's only French-language community radio station. This position is an integral part of the Association des francophones du Nunavut (AFN) team and reports directly to the General Manager.

 

The ideal candidate has the experience, training, skills and motivation to implement AFN's media programming. He/she plays a key role in CFRT's development, ensuring that the station remains stable, autonomous, profitable and true to its commitments to the community, the CRTC, the Canada Revenue Agency, ARCOT, as well as its partners, funders and clients.

 

Responsibilities include recruiting, coaching, training and supporting volunteers, as well as coordinating the activities of the radio committee. He/she also works to strengthen the station's self-financing capacity through advertising sales and production, and by seeking out new customers. However, his/her primary mission remains to make CFRT a dynamic community radio station, serving and working closely with its community.

 

Apart from the accounting aspects, the manager is involved in all aspects of the resort's operations. He/she is supported by a team of volunteers, a local technical resource mobilized as needed, and a part-time programming coordinator. In addition, morning shows and news are produced by an external resource under his/her supervision.

 

Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate and supervise all CFRT 107.3 FM programming to ensure a varied, quality offering for the audience.
- Manage all stages of the advertising process, including prospecting, sales, production
production and broadcast of advertisements, as well as follow-up and management of advertising contracts.
- Recruit, coach, train and support volunteers to contribute effectively to station activities.
- Produce and broadcast weekly capsules in collaboration with partners from the Association des francophones du Nunavut (AFN).
- Manage and regularly update the station's website and Facebook page to maintain active to maintain active communication with the audience.
- Handle emails and maintain positive relationships with audience, clients and media partners. (AFN's general relations are handled by general management.

- Produce and broadcast occasional interviews with artists or personalities visiting Iqaluit to enrich cultural programming.
- Update music repertoires and provide media coverage of local events
events to reflect the vitality of the community.
- Write funding proposals and manage associated projects to support the station's development.
- Host one or more radio programs according to the needs of the station, with a
frequency and schedule.
- Represent CFRT 107.3 FM at local and national events such as concerts, conferences
conferences, symposiums and training courses, with the possibility of occasional
occasional travel.
- Carry out any other tasks necessary and relevant to ensure the smooth running and development of the station.

 

Skills, training and experience required
- Training and/or experience in radio (community or commercial), or any other combination deemed relevant to the position (administration, management, communications, etc.);
- Fluent French and advanced oral and written English;
- Proficiency in the Office Suite and ease/interest in information technology;
- Excellent learning, adaptation and communication skills;
- Ability to work autonomously and manage priorities according to mission;
- Knowledge of Squarespace, Winmédia and Teamviewer is an asset.

 

Working conditions

- Full-time position with minimum one-year contract, renewable subject to availability of funds;
- Annual base salary between $70,000 and $75,000 depending on experience;
- Northern living allowance of $15,000 added to base salary;
- Flexible working hours;
- 3-month probation period;
- 250/month housing assistance; this position does not provide subsidized housing.
- Group insurance after 3 months;
- RRSP after 3 months;
- 1000 travel bonus after 9 months;
- 3 weeks per year, increasing with seniority
- 15 days sick leave per year
- 1 week paid after every 5 months of work (2 weeks per fiscal year)

 

Additional information: The manager must be based in Iqaluit. We cover moving expenses for one person, based on a plane ticket from Montreal or Ottawa to Iqaluit and four (4) pieces of luggage weighing 50 lbs.

Due to the learning curve associated with the position, AFN is looking for a candidate willing to commit for a minimum of two years. Priority will be given to local candidates. Fluency in English is essential, and experience in the North or in small communities is an asset.
