Franco-Centre Coordinator
The Association des francophones du Nunavut (AFN) is the political and community development organization that represents the Francophone community in Nunavut. It was founded in 1981 with the vision of a strong, proud, open and dynamic Francophone community in Nunavut. It is one of 12 territorial/provincial advocacy organizations across the country whose primary mission is to ensure the political representation of Francophones in official language minority communities, while offering services and promoting the French fact through the preservation of culture and heritage.
The Franco-Centre, AFN's head office, is a rich and varied multidisciplinary community center and cultural venue, offering over 200 days of artistic, cultural, community and political activities annually. It is the only center of its kind in Nunavut.
The Association des francophones du Nunavut is looking for a Franco-Centre Coordinator to ensure the smooth running of the Franco-Centre's activities.
Description:
Based in Iqaluit, Nunavut, the Franco-Centre Coordinator will be responsible for managing all technical aspects related to the operation of the Franco-Centre building and social and cultural events. This person will play a central role in the planning, coordination and realization of memorable social and cultural events, while ensuring their technical aspects and quality standards are maintained.
Under the authority and supervision of the Operations Manager, the Coordinator is responsible for:
1. Management of the Franco-Centre
- Ensuring the efficient management of all operations related to the smooth running,
, upkeep and maintenance of the Franco-Centre and its fixed assets.
- Coordinate and plan repairs and maintenance of the building's various systems (plumbing, electricity, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, security, etc.).
- Develop, draft and ensure the application of policies and procedures governing the
operation and management of the Franco-Centre.
- Manage room rentals, including reservations, invoicing, logistics and follow-up with customers.
- Supervise the security and access management system (keying, alarms, cameras,etc.), ensuring control and distribution of keys and access codes.
- In collaboration with the computer network manager, oversee the installation, maintenance and proper operation of Franco-Centre's technological equipment and
infrastructure.
- Create, lead and coordinate a health, safety and wellness committee to promote a safe and healthy environment for employees and users.
- Prepare reports, minutes and recommendations related to the administration, maintenance and necessary improvements of Franco-Centre.
- Assume responsibility as first responder in case of emergency of building alarm activation, including coordination with emergency services as required.
- In collaboration with the Operations Manager and general management, establish a rotation schedule for general maintenance of the center and facilities, performed by professionals (cleaning and janitorial, heating, refrigeration, ventilation, finishing, electrical, etc.).
- Ensure the center's compliance with safety standards and regulations in force for commercial, cultural and event spaces.
- Maintain an efficient room rental system, organizing and setting up and dismantling spaces according to the needs of events and activities.
- In collaboration with the Operations Manager, maintain a detailed inventory of materials and equipment related to Franco-Centre activities, and ensure their good condition.
- Ensure functional and optimal organization of Franco-Centre spaces, including
internal and external storage areas.
- Ensure compliance with Franco-Centre's liquor license conditions and prepare the renewal file in a timely manner.
- Manage the Franco-Centre's bar and its supplies;
- In collaboration with the Operations Manager, place the necessary orders for bar supplies;
- With the approval of General Management, recruit, supervise, train and evaluate staff and volunteers involved in cultural and bar activities, by strictly adhering to established budget forecasts.
- Actively participate in the development and continuous improvement of Franco-Centre's services and infrastructure.
- Carry out any other task deemed relevant to the achievement of AFN's objectives.
2. Technical management of programming and cultural and social activities:
- Assist in the installation, configuration and maintenance of sound, lighting and other technical equipment, including audio systems, lighting and related equipment;
contribute to the creation of visual and sound ambiences that correspond to the artistic vision of each production;
- In collaboration with the Cultural Manager, plan, coordinate and supervise the realization of cultural, community and artistic projects, such as festivals, dinners, exhibitions, concerts, conferences, film screenings, artistic residencies, etc, planning of necessary resources, logistical coordination, management of deadlines and time constraints, inputs and outputs;
- As required, represent AFN and the Franco-Centre locally and nationally at events, conferences, training related to activities;
- In collaboration with the cultural manager, plan and manage the posting of the center's calendar of activities internally and externally;
Qualifications
- Diploma in administration, project management or equivalent, an asset.
- Experience in technical work, audiovisual, venue management, ideally in the cultural sector would be an asset.
- In-depth knowledge of sound and light equipment, audio systems and lighting technologies. The Franco-centre is equipped with a Behringer X32 sound console, a Cham Sys QuickQ 20 lighting console, and state-of-the-art sound and lighting equipment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication skills.
- Creativity and attention to detail.
- Excellent capacity for learning, flexibility and adaptation.
- If not a resident of Iqaluit, willing to relocate;
- Experience or knowledge in building maintenance.
- Experience in administrative management.
- Experience and good knowledge of installation and maintenance of computer and network equipment
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety.

- Excellent ability to manage several tasks and files at once.

- Available on call in case of emergency.

- Availability to work occasional overtime, evenings or weekends,
as well as travel outside the workplace;
Working conditions and benefits
- Full-time position with one-year contract, renewable depending on availability of funds;
- Annual compensation with variable and flexible working hours;
- Annual base salary between $70,000 and $80,000 depending on experience;
- Northern living allowance (Nunavut) of $15,000 added to base salary;
- Probation period of 3 months;
- Group health and dental insurance starting at 3 months;
- Group RRSP starting at 3 months;
- Travel allowance of $1,000 after 9 months of employment;
- Housing allowance of $250 per month;
- Telephone allowance of $50 per month;
- Off-peak summer period from end of June to end of August.
Additional information: The position is based in Iqaluit. We will cover part of the moving expenses for one person, i.e., one plane ticket Montreal-Iqaluit or Ottawa-Iqaluit and four (4) pieces of 70 lb luggage. This position does not include subsidized housing.
