About NIRB
The Nunavut Impact Review Board (NIRB) is Nunavut's environmental assessment agency. Its mission is to protect and promote the well-being of the environment and Nunavummiut through the impact assessment process, including the responsibilities of assessing the potential impacts of proposed projects before the necessary permits, licenses and approvals can be granted. Using both traditional knowledge and recognized scientific methods, NIRB assesses the potential biophysical and socio-economic impacts of proposals, makes recommendations and takes decisions on which projects can proceed.


NIRB's mandate includes:
Ensuring certainty and clarity of land and resource ownership and use rights, as well as the right of Inuit to participate in decision-making concerning the use, management and conservation of land, water and resources, including offshore ;
Provide Inuit with wildlife harvesting rights and the right to participate in decision-making concerning wildlife harvesting;
Provide Inuit with financial compensation and the means to participate in economic opportunities; and
Encourage Inuit self-reliance and cultural and social well-being.

 

Position objective

The Administrative Officer provides administrative and management support to the Nunavut Impact Review Board (NIRB). This position serves as the first point of contact at the office reception desk, providing a welcoming and professional atmosphere and daily support to the Board, staff members and the general public.


Essential duties and responsibilities

Reception:

 Answer and direct incoming telephone calls

 Receive, record and distribute incoming and outgoing mail and faxes

 Greet visitors and offer hospitality and orientation to facilities.

 

Administrative support:

 Maintain accurate files, records and correspondence

 Keep general office area tidy and clean

 Coordinate with travel agencies to arrange travel and accommodation for board members and staff

 Other clerical and administrative duties as required

 

Administrative support :

 Provide administrative support and assistance to all staff

 Assist Senior Financial Officer with data entry, as required

 Maintain office supplies

 

Qualifications:

Knowledge of Nunavut Impact Review Board mandate and :

 General office administration

 Public administration practices and related control processes

 

Skills: 

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

 Ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy

 Efficiency in Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications

 

Skills :

 Summarize information and underline important points

 Work independently when required

 Deal with frequent interruptions and changing priorities

 

Education:

 High school diploma (grade 12) or equivalent with several years' work experience

experience in positions with similar responsibilities

 Other combinations of education and experience may also be considered

 

Experience:

 At least 2 years' experience in an office administration position

Experience in the Arctic or in a cross-cultural environment considered an asset
Fluency in written and/or conversational Inuktut considered an asset.

 

Compensation and benefits
Remuneration will be commensurate with the successful candidate's level of education, knowledge and experience in relation to the position. The salary range for this position is $64,275 - $77,753.
