Lets Celebrate the Francophone Entrepreneurs in Nunavut

Iqaluit, Nunavut – 23 novembre 2016 – Carrefour Nunavut is proud to announce the second edition of the Gala des entrepreneurs du Nunavut. This event aims to recognize excellence in business among the Francophone and Francophile community in Nunavut. The Gala des entrepreneurs du Nunavut 2017 will take place on March 24, 2017, at The Discovery, Iqaluit's Boutique Hotel. The call for applicants will be announced shortly. Carrefour Nunavut invites the business community to identify potential candidates and spread the word!

The first edition of the Gala took place in October 2014. Approximately forty people from the local business community and financial partners attended the event, including former mayor Mary Wilman. The evening was a great success. Eight Francophone entrepreneurs were put forward, and four were rewarded by the jurors.

For this second edition of the Gala des entrepreneurs du Nunavut, the presentation of the finalists in three categories will allow to showcase the dynamism of the francophone businesses in Nunavut. The three categories are: Business of the Year 2017, Francophone Business Personality 2017 and Best service in French 2017. As in the first edition, jurors will have the opportunity to recognize a company or an additional entrepreneur by offering a Coup de cœur award.

Congratulations to the Winners of the 2016 Small and Medium Business’ Awards

logoThe Réseau de développement économique et d’employabilité du Canada (RDÉE Canada), presented trophies in Edmonton, October 22, 2016, to the six winners of the 2016 Small and Medium Business’ Awards.

This is the seventh award ceremony. The event is an opportunity for all Canadians to applaud the excellent entrepreneurial skills of businesspeople in the country’s Francophone and Acadian communities.

The national selection committee awarded prizes in five categories based on strict criteria for assessing the winning businesses:

Retail sales
LMS Rail Services (Ontario)

Immigrant entrepreneur
Terre Boréale (Yukon)

Young entrepreneur
Étchiboy (Manitoba)

Transmed (Nouveau-Brunswick) et 7shifts (Saskatchewan) ex æquo

Leisure Farms (Ontario)

Cross-Canada Official Languages Consultations

It was Tuesday, October 18, that the Minister of Canadian Heritage, the Honourable Mélanie Joly, completed in Iqaluit his great round of public consultations as part of a process to develop a new multi-year action plan on official languages for Canada.

Emilie Pasalic, President of Carrefour Nunavut, was present alongside the other representatives of the Franco-Nunavut community to stand together and present the issues and realities of the community. The Minister has received the portrait of a young community, passionate, dynamic and truly engaged in its development.
